What’s the best price as a Joe Blow are you going to find on basic architectural shingles 15 through 30yr.?
Not looking for “Oh my God I found this bargain, discontinued or miss marked, etc…”
Realize there a bit cheaper come winter. Also don’t want to know as a roofing contractor what you can pick them up for in volume sales.
I’m just waiting to pull the trigger on doing my own roof when I come across a reasonable sale/price drop. I ask each time I’m in a different supply house what’s their current bargain, eyeball the prices as I pass em’ in the box stores and flip the local ads.
Decent idea going what I’m gonna spend, but how much longer do I wait for that trigger price and what is it? Is it something that might go on sale only once a year or once a month or even worth waiting for to happen?

There's no product that I'm aware of that's marketed as less than a 30 yr in regards to architectural shingles.

Hmm - news to me.

Then you're about 18 months too late. They've more than doubled in price in that time. I've been at this 25+ years and I've never seen a sale on shingles unless it's discontinued or miss-ordered product.

if you want a bargain .. go to a roofing supply place and ask about discontinued patterns / colors
or ask about damaged ... like incorrectly stored so the bundles got wet
if i had a personal job that's what i'd be looking at if i wanted to save money
just make sure they have enough of the product so you can finish your jobMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I'd only use that kind of product if it was a shed for myself or a hog barn or something like that, and then only at half price, because that might be how the lifespan goes.

nah.... the big yards have such a turnover, they have to move the stuff to make room for the new stuff
i can buy really good stuff with full warranty
Certainteed is constantly renaming and relabeling their product, the old stuff is just fine
same thing with composite decking.. amazing what you can buy if you wander around out back
sometimes i will let customer know that we can get this kind of stuff.. but everyone has to walk in with their eyes open

Pink Panthers (OC) come in a 25 year with a dade county sticker.
If you've noticed the price on crude oil, you know it is already on the way back up and hit a flat spot right now. If you wait, you will pay more. I have never heard of a winter price drop. Likewise, you will wait forever to find a 15 year Architectural shingle. Cheapest is a 25 or 30 year.
Buy now or forever hold your piece

Your comment is an exact reflection of my neighbor's, he's been waiting for almost a year for a price drop with a blue tarp over the back side of his house. He said it hasn't leaked yet so he's got time.
I'm not that bad with the roof yet, blue tarp that is. However my Whirlpool tub I put in has had a very effective visquen surround for oh three yrs. Totally remodeled the bath a couple weeks ago....changed the plastic. No cleaning just staple up a new piece when needed. Let me tell you....The wife really loves it too and I hear about every other day.
Thinking about it I haven't bought shingles in about 10 years. I do not do much roofing these days. but back then was buying Elk shingles, color weatherwood... about 700 sq for one job. $45 per square.
I know this is of little help now but made me think about how long it has been.
