Talking to a customer about installing vinyl siding. She’s been an excellent customer, so I want to give her proper advice. She has been told by others that vinyl siding will get brittle in the winter and break. Keep in mind, that we live in Georgia. Anyone care to voice an opinion on that concern?

Peter,
It's not a concern.
*Vinyl siding does get more brittle in the winter, not enough to break. It is harder to cut with a saw and to punch locking tabs in the winter without it cracking though.Never been in GA in the winter but I suspect it's more mild than NJ. The only time vinyl will crack in the winter is if it was installed in the summer and the nails are driven home so the vinyl can't contract, then it might crack. Install it correctly and there's no problem.
*When vinyl siding first came out - the way I remember it - back in the early 70s (that's about as far as i I go back) - there where quality problems with the products - chalking and more brittle in very cold weather. Not any more.
*oh, and it'll suffocate the house, and uh, ruin your house if it's more that 75 years old by trapping moisture. There's a bunch more lies to be told too. Jeff....how does that moisture thing work, what do ya have to do, plug all the weep holes???
*She is your customer, eh? What are you selling her, the siding?
*Hey Ryan-Where in NJ you located? I'm 'bout an hour west of Philly
*I briefly lived in a house built in 1987, in the St Louis area, and its vinyl siding was not only hard and brittle, but it would warp in one area where heat was trapped in a dormer valley. When I had the warped section replaced in 1992, I was told by the siding contractor that this particuler siding was "contractor" quality at the time and that it wasn't available any more. Modern vinyl siding hasn't those problems.Follow up: What's this I hear about rechargeable batteries having "memories"?
We are not sure about the winter months? But can guarantee that the sun does!
