I’m going to have plenty of questions re my new house (new old house, built in 1922).
What is the best approach to building an arbor over an existing concrete slab, re anchoring the wooden posts. thanks!
FYI- it’s a postage-stamp sized backyard, and the previous owner didn’t care much for nature; the whole thing is concreted-over, except a tiny patch under a swingset. I intend to have some concrete removed, but there still will be the original pad the garage was on. It’s too deep to be practical to remove, so i would like to make it a pleasant living space, with large planters and an arbor.

Simpson makes a special post holder that will hold a 4x4 post off the concrete. Look for it oern by the nails and screws at Home Depot or similar.

I don't feel it's healthy to keep your faults bottled up inside me.
How big is this arbor?
Even with a very heavy duty bracket, you're going to have a quite a load, one that may be too large for retrofit brackets.

Why can't i just have more supports? I have to go back and measure, but IIRC, the pad is roughly 18 feet square. so, what is the recommended distance between supports?
Thanks!
