Started a new job today. New house way up on the mountain. Nice place. Nice job. I’m getting the cabinets, counters, ceramic floors, carpet, interior doors and hardware, staircase and balustrade, and all the woodwork and trim. Nice place .Glad to have this job. Glad to be alive. In the trimmer’s “zone”. Feeling good. Feeling great. Working alone today . Everything going smooth. Thinking that after 25 years I’m finally getting good. These guys came to the right place when they hired me. Nice day. Leaves are turning and starting to fall. About 4:00 got into my truck to go home. “Bang”. Ran over the freaking well casing. The freaking thing is sticking 2′ above the freaking ground. Hung up. Shattered the well cap and ruined the threads. Broke large hose between radiator and block. Nice house. Nice setting. Nice freaking well. Thick, green antifreeze is pouring right down the well casing. You couldn’t do that if you tried for 100 years. Probably ruined the well for a freaking 100 years.
How can such a good day turn around so quickly? Should have known. Should have been watching for that freaking well head. Oh, How was your day?

My day was better than yours.
I would ask the builder/owner/whoever if they have insurance. They probably do. If not, or if it won't cover this situation, maybe your auto policy would.
*Johnson, man, I don't remember ever talkin' with you before, but you have my sympathy. Either your commercial liability or auto liability should cover it though. Hang in there - jb
*Today the brick layer came. Wounderful day. Reminded me we needed to have the 5 1/2" wide Hardi Trim brick facia up by Tuesday. Called the lumber shed to confirm it would be delivered today. Yes, it came in this morning. 3 12' long sticks of the stuff 7 1/2' wide. Wrong stuff and no where near enough. Into the truck and off to see "my guy" at the shed. No explanation of course. Then a phone call to the wholesaler in Memphis. "The reason you did not get it is because we have elected not to stock that demention in the Cedar pattern. Sorry we neglected to tell you the first time we zeroed out your order. Also, we do not stock 1/4" Snapvent or H Mold. If you want it we can special order it for you in carton lots." Decision time. To keep the job going we will have to get more Hardi Trim and rip what we need. Into the truck and off to Memphis (75 miles), pick up 5 more sticks of the 7 1/2" stuff and return in time to wash up and take my wife out for a birthday dinner. No lingering romance in the morning. Have to be on the job at 7 to rip Hardi Board and pull those wires I was working on when this disaster came up. No, I did not poision a well today, I can not beat that, but it was one of days. I hope this makes you feel a little better!
*My end of day screw up was so petty next to the poisen well that I refuse to even detail it. It is days like that that you carry the insurance for.Good luckRich Beckman
*Brother Johnson, You know on one of them days that things are just gonna get better. Sounds like a great job ahead. Sorry about the well and truck, nothin that throwin a couple of dollars at it won't fix. Had a day like Rich myself. Nothing big goin on worth goin into. Guess that well is like a speed bump on the road of life. Your over it. Good Luck Skip

Had a bad day huh?
I don't mean to trivialize your problems but focus on the big picture. Wife happy? Kids healthy? Making the house payment and got food on the table? Sometimes its easy to forget those lean years when just getting by was a struggle. Be grateful for what you've got and don't let the "bumps in the road" become mountains. You can't control what life brings, but you can control how it affects you.
