We are looking for information on the procedures to achieve a radius of 36″ on 1/4″ drywall. We are applying two layers on metal studs. Is this really feasible?

The architect is not all wet, but the drywall should be. The normal procedure for bending dry wall is to wet it first. However with 1/4" rock and a 36" radius, the necessity for wetting will be minimum. This radius is quite large compared to bending that is possible. You may be able to attain this with just a simple misting of both sides. It depends on how large a piece you are trying to bend. If it is narrow enough you might be able to use one layer of 1/2" rock.
*Emmy,I've never used Joe's method but I have used Mike's, it's worked easlily enough and you have a big enough radius that distortion shouldn't be a problem.What I really want to know from Joe is how do you do that click here stuff!!? *I second Mike's recommendation, with one exception. Although 1/2" could make a 36" curve, I still prefer to have two layers of 1/4" applied with seams staggered. There's less stress on the screws, thus less likelyhood that the fasteners will someday fail. For tighter curves you could wet, then drape the rock over a sawhorse to help shape it a bit. Emmy. It can be done, easily, or harder. I'd opt for the 1/4" drywall method. Just leave a couple of sheets lying on some concrete, or mother earth, and in the morning it will droop the 36" radius easily. The drywall wicks up a substantial amount of moisture uniformally.
Thats the same method I use to bend planks on the cantilevered radii that I have to occasionally frame.

*Emmy, I did 4 30" radius curves over metal and am going now to tape them. I used 1/4" and wet both sides pretty well and the curves look great, real smooth. I used one of those pump up "bug sprayer" type things to wet the drywall.

Emmy: I've done it before makin cuts along the inside our outside of the drywall in order to bend it the way you want it. This will make you spend a little more in mud but the results are good.
