I’m restoring a 1902 house that could be almost dead original on the exterior if I used cedar on the roof. I’ve helped put cedar up on a couple of houses here in the Kansas City are 10 – 15 years ago and it is clear that they are not going to last 50 years. Lately I’ve heard unsubstantiated rumors that the KC area is the dumping ground for all less than the best cedar products. Something to do with Johnson County Kansas being the number 1 market in the world for cedar shakes. I’m not sure what shakes have to do with shingles, but that’s what I’ve heard. If I drove out to YB and JonC’s area could I get better? When we last bought them around here, we were not trying to save a buck- we asked for the best. Thanks.
