I’m remodeling several rooms in my 30 year old house and want to put ceramic tile onto the concrete slab. The rooms are a home office, guest bath, and an alcove serving both, totaling about 200sf. My selected tile is 12″x12″ Marazzi from Home Depot. The slab is on grade, dry, and has asbestos flooring on it. There aren’t any loose tiles except for a few places where carpet tack strips once were. All the thinset adhesives I can find say not to apply over asbestos tile. One person thought there might be a reaction between the new thinset and the binder in the old asbestos tile which causes it to crumble. The only advice I’ve gotten is to lay Dura Rock down and use thinset over that. But how do I attach it? I can use concrete screws into the slab but that’s not my preference. Needless to say, removing the old tile and glue isn’t an option. Any ideas out there?

Think about it: if you where a materials mfg. wouldn't you say don't use over asbestos too? It's CYA.
Your solution: encapsulate with self-leveling cement. You'll find it at any masonry or tile shop. And, uh, buddy, stay out of HD.
