Hi folks,
I’ve got a question for those of you who pay others to do CAD drawings for you (if there are any of you out there).
What are you willing to pay for CAD work?
Here’s why I ask:
I’ve been doing some drawings for a contractor that I hooked up with this spring. I told him right off the bat that I get 35 dollars/hr for doing CAD. He had me do a couple of things that were fairly quick hits and said nothing.
Later he wanted a room full of cabinetry for a very odd shaped room, and a porch drawn on an existing victorian house, which naturally took some time. When he got the bill he whined about the price and asked me to lower my hourly fee to something closer to my carpentry rate, which is 20 dollars/hr. I told him I had to hold firm. I bill my own clients at that rate, and if they want it bad enough they’ll pay for it, otherwise they can live without it.
This guy in the past has also tried to get me to do photography for him for below my market rates. And I had no trouble saying no. I’m confident in my knowledge of the market value of photography. I used to be a professional photographer, and still do some on the side. It’s a shame he won’t pay for it because his book is full of very bad snapshots of very high-end work.
But I digress. Does $35/hr seem out of line for 3D Cad work?
