If your tub moves it leaks .Probably wouldnt be bad if parts are new .We have one in a rental house have had to fix it a time or two mine wants to leak around overflow.I know the close quaters make it a concern where the nut is at te floor.Hope you enjoy hooking it up more yhan i did!!!

We had a clawfoot that allowed the spout to hang below the overflow.
*I just went through the process. Buying an old tub, refinishing it, buying fixtures, and plumbing it in. Quite an experience, but well worth the effort. I made the bathroom. I won't bore you with the buying and refinishing parts. I bought a new (modern) overflow and drain fixture from Home Depot. This worked great, and eliminated the hassle with the different diameter lines. By putting in a modern fixture, with a lever to fill/drain the tub, you need to buy a faucet fixture that has the high, gooseneck filler. The original, low profile type gets in the way of the drain lever. The problem with the faucets, both the original antiques, and the reproductions, is that the connector threads are 1". I was having a b--ch of a time finding a solution to hooking up to standard 1/2" compression type shut offs, without buying the repro stand pipes sold ($100+) Someone on this site referred me to http://www.plumbing.com. They are an on-line plumbing supply location that has everything. Go to claw foot tub, fixtures, and you'll find a 90 degree adapter fitting. Worked great.Good luckRay

I never really understood much of that previous thread. What IS different about plumbing up to an old clawfoot rather than a modern tub (other than OD of drain tube)? I'm asking because I have to do it pretty soon, thanks.
