I have some new pine doors and windows that I need to finish. They have some dirt and finger print marks. What is the best way to clean to the unfinished wood prior to finishing?

Would sanding get rid of this stuff?
I like to sand the unfinished wood anyway to get rid of the "smooth" layer on the rails and stiles where the planer burnished it. This seems to help with the stain absorption.
TSP & hotwater. Then use a sanding sealer to fill and smooth open pores in the wood before appling finish.
