I’m looking for a clear, non darkening finish for exterior white cedar shingles. I had them put on in the spring, at which time the carpenter/contractor said to wait a few months before applying any finish. So I waited till this weekend, tried an oil based product (linseed, I think) on a small section, was VERY unhappy with the result. I want something that will maintain the light cedar look with no darkening or yellowing. Is there any product someone can recommend? thank you.

Anne, Flood's CWC or Cuprinol New Look Wood Finish might be what you are looking for ... both are available at Sherwin- Williams dealers. Almost any finish will impart some tone to the wood; try a small area first. The other thing you should realize is in maintaining that new cedar look, you are turning what is a low maintainance siding into a high(er) maintainance siding.
