Does anyone know a brand of workboots as comfortable and lightweight as your favorite sneakers?

    Flip,

I really like my Carolina's. I believe there was a thread a little while back on "resoling workboots" that coverd this.

I have been wearing Wolverine Wilderness Dura-Shocks for several yrs. but want to try the new Red Wings with a similar sole when I find them.

I've been wearing Knapp workbooks for almost 18 years now and have been very pleased. I first learned of the Knapps when working as a grocery stock clerk. After wearing out a pair of "Sears Best" in a matter of months, one of the other clerks turned me on to Knapp. Be certain, however, to get their "Two-Shot" sole. It's a sandwich design with a softer rubber in the middle.
In all the years of wearing Knapps, I've never wore out the upper before the sole.

You guys better not rag on me but I found the most comfortable pair of work boots I've ever owned at
K-mart. They're called Thom McCanns and only cost $50. I bought them on vacation because I forgot to pack a pair, but started to wear them to work afterwards because they were so much more comfortable than my old pair. (darn $200 Carolinas)

so far they've lasted me 9mos and are still going strong.

*Red Wing. Expensive, and worth it. Amazing how a day on a ladder can feel in a pair. Jeff

*Any recommendations for really cool boots - not the snakeskin kind that I assume most of you dudes wear, but boots that keep your feet ventilated and cool in 100 plus degree days. Unfortunately, my feet have developed a dislike to the current style of glued up construction tennis/running shoes and burn and itch like crazy if I wear them. My Teva and Nike sandals are great, but leave something to be desired in toe protection on a worksite.

*I started wearing Red Wings 40 yrs ago and don't plan on changing brands for at least another 40 years.

*The soles finally come off of my old boots last week. They were, don't laugh, Big Mac brand from JCPennys. Thought I'd give 'em a try, and got over a year of wear on them before they gave up. The price was right and thought "what the hell." Replacements are Wolverines. After a day of wear they were/are the most comfortable footwear I own. Including hiking boots, sneakers, loafers, slippers, etc. Very happpy feet.Later. LJ

*Yup. Red Wings. Back to Irish Setters this time.

*I think any (U.S.A. made) Wolverine with the Durashock feature is very competetive in durability, comfort and quality with Red Wings. They are not cheap but cost a little less then Red Wings.I have one of the worst pair of feet for fitting shoes (= can't buy cheap ones) and after trying on Red Wings and Wolverine ended up going with Wolverine. As for after purchase service, Red Wing may have a better reputation ?

Ditto on the Red Wings. What model do you guys use. Have gone through four pairs of #2233 through the years and aprehensive about trying a different model. Human nature I guess.

Red Wings are the 'b'best. I've been wearing them twenty years ( not the same pair) and everytime I try something different (cheaper), I'm really disappointed. So are my feet.

*I've owned and wore out many different types. My wolverines fell apart prematurely. My red wings have never fallen apart until their time was up. They always feel good, even during their last few weeks. I actually tried sneakers on a roof for the first time in my life recently. It was easily the most uncomfortable day I had ever had on the roof. My foot was constntly sliding inside the shoe. I'll never do that again!Incidently I bought my first pair of redwings with steel toes. I remember (long ago) how bad the steel toes felt. I probably didn't have the right size on, remember, I was young and stupid at one time. Now, I'm just old and stupid. But anyways, I like the new steel toed shoes. I find I can rest walls on my toes prior to lifting them. Before I use to slide my nailpuller under them (the walls) but now I just slip my boot under. I'm saving one second per wall!I got my redwings discounted too! I think I paid $119.00. The selection was limited but I got a pair that I like.Check out the Cabela catalogue for winter shoes. I see a lot of good stuff like LaCrosse for well under $100.00. I bought a pair of LaCrosse last year and loved them. They will easily last me through this upcoming winter season.blue
