A friend is having a cabin built in the mountains. The house is up but the attached garage isn't. Snow delay. Now the snow is melting and there is a big puddle. About 18" of fill will be needed before they do the slab. What should be done about all that moisture?
*You are kidding, right? Get rid of it. Your only alternative is to push the water out with the concrete. Start at the one end with a stiff mix, and work your way to the other end. If the ground beneath is crap anyway, this will do you no good in the long term. If you need it immediately, I would drain the area and hog out 12" or so, backfill with dry gravel and place slab.
*sounds like the site is in a hole.. and its still going to be a hole after the cabin is built..so the hole should have some drainage installed and then backfill with suitable material (crushed rock would be good) then a filter membrane and compacted gravel...then pour the slab....
