I am having our electric baseboard heat system replaced with a natural gas fired boiler/hot water baseboard heating system. When I got the quote from the contractor I asked him what type of piping would be used and he responded copper except in tight spots where they would have to use a product called KITEC. This is a PEX/AL/PEX piping. Now that the job is underway it seems like they are using nothing but KITEC, even in places where it would be easy to install copper pipe. He says this product is better than copper pipe. Is this true? Are they pulling a fast one here?

Michael,
I don't think the question of copper vs. PEX has been diffinitively answered yet. Copper is tried and true, but with PEX there are only two connections at each length of baseboard. In my opinion, FWIW, it seems to be a wash. I can tell you this though, The Kitec PEX-AL-PEX is premium quality. There are a lot of cheaper PEX's he could have used.
Hope This Helps,
Jerry
*Michael...the joining methods are have now been made hopefully to leak less...the system I used just provided hose clamps and was leaky even thoough in my case the leaks couldn't do damage...Also what I used was provided by the homeowner years before I new better...the pex you are usiing is top shelf from what I gather...so the joints are most likely also...most plumbers don't like leaky call backs so he must know his product.near the stream at a trickle,aj
