For God’s sake don’t tear it out! I’ll side with your mother and opt to save the cork. Cork can be re-finished just like a wood floor can. It should be done by a floor finisher with some experience. It’s not a job for a novice. It requires starting with a finer abrasive than with a standard wood floor, and will look better if finished off with finer abrasives. I would suggest contacting We cork or Dodge-Regupol or Expanko Cork for specifics about re-finishing your floor.
I wish I had the money to put cork into my place! Save what you’ve got; it’s unique, performs well and is a pleasure to view.

Thanks Chad. I am so glad to hear such an enthusiastic answer!
You guys have been so helpful!
*Start sanding with 100 or 120 grit, work carefully... finish with either polyurethane or, in my opinion a better finish... wax.

Hi! I am new to Breaktime, but I am on Cook's Talk a lot and heard that you guys have been a great help to a lot of people. I hope that you can help me too!
My mother just completely re-did a room in her house: new walls, windows, plumbing air conditioning, heat etc. It was originally a sun porch and now it is fully insulated and ready for all 4 seasons. She is prepared to rip up the floor but is attached to the cork floor that has been there for about 50 years. Needless to say, there are water stains, spots where embers from the fireplace fell and bleached spots from the sun.
Is there a way to resurface the cork? Or must she rip it up and replace it?
Thanks so much for any possible ideas or suggestions.
