I am being told by someone I know, who is having a GC build a new custom for them, that the GC claims both lumber and sheet products have doubled since the Katrina event.
Doubled?

Just one product: I priced plywood subfloor a week or so ago (prior to Wilma..or whatever the latest hurricane was). The $18/sheet (which I've gotten as cheap as $14 in the recent past) was going for $32. That is a $15 difference, which looks to be about a 78% increase.
Your area might be more expensive. Or the builder might be covering possible additional increases caused by the latest couple hurricanes. IMHO, record hurricane season is usually going to go hand-in-hand with record lumber prices.
