I am remodeling a 70’s ranch. It has a large rectangular brick fireplace set the the extreme left of the room. Unfortunately the expense to remove and center it is too great so I am trying to minimize its impact. I have decided to cover the brick with a colored and sanded concrete type product in order to moderize its appearance and add an old beam type mantel. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a concrete product that would do well in this application? I thought that I would cover the brick with metal lathe held with concrete screws. Any thoughts there?
Thanks,
glinder

You're talking about stucco. Theoretically, it's an easy process, and common.

I parged a painted fireplace and much to the chagrine
of people here it worked great and is still sticking.
Didn't use any wire just troweled it on using a acrylic
add mixture to the sand mix concrete which is available
at home cheapo.
Shouldn't need the metal if the brick has some good "tooth" to hold your finish material. Trowel away!
