I need a little help with some crown that I installed last summer. I put in a 150 feet
of crown in a basement remodel that I did and it look great but know that it 20 degs
here in Michigan some of the scarf joints have started to open up. When I installed
the crown I glued the joint and put them over a stud and cut a block to fit in the void
behind the two pieces of crown to act like a spine, both pieces were then glued and nailed to the block.
When I went there yesterday the humidifier was not working so the house is real dry now.
My question is how should I fix these joints so they stay closed and look good.
The crack is small but it looks like hell.
Thanks

I can't get back in the house until the weekend I can send some picks then
Is the crown painted? If so use bondo in the cracks. Usually dries in an hour or less ,sand with fine grit paper and repaint. Bondo will make the crack disappear.
Even though wood is supposed to move across the grain, and not enough to see with the grain, this happens once in awhile. I've installed trim in buildings without heat or airconditioning during the construction phase and sometimes had better luck than those places that were under climate control.Only thing I can think of ,is the trim had too much humidity in storage.

Get the humidifier up and running again, before you attempt any fix.
Anything you do while it's not running will be undone once it is.
