I try to avoid anything Craftsman these days.
However, I remember reading about this auto power switch in a thread
and I thought it was cool-it’s a 3 plug box that allows you to plug your chopsaw into the top main and when you start your saw, your vac will come on.
May be old hat to some of you but if one person like myself finds it useful-cool.
Maybe a cheaper source-it’s not cheap at 35. bucks but on a jobsite I saw a porter cable vac that does the same for over 500.
100 bucks for a ridgid shop vac and this switch and you’re on your way to dust control on a jobsite.
If anyone has a cheaper source-I’m all ears.
cheers,
silver

I bought one to run the vacuum while the table saw is going.
Works like a hot dam and keeps the other resident of the space clean (2006 Harley Softail).
$35.00? Friend, that's not money!

$35.00? Friend, that's not money!I'm getting cheap in my many moons age<grin>
The craftsman unit works great and its $20. I have three in use and no problems going on five years.
I already took one apart and used the inside to make one to turn one my dust collector. The dust collector is 120v and the saw 240.
35. CANADIAN! LOLI thought 110 only-do you use a 110 style plug for the 220 saw?
also good to know they're durable.silver
You will burn it up on 240V. I have it setup on one leg of the 240 which is 120.
Had to do some wiring and some re-packaging but works fine for what I need.

You can always make your own if you need 240:http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2007/02/diy_auto_vacuum_system.htmlZ
Wow, did that link ever show a complicated mess for the non-electronic carp.
Much easier make to simply use a solid state relay (e.g. teledyne 602-1*) that turns on a 240 Vac switch with 4Vdc. 4vdc easy with any type magnetic core, few hundred turns of wire, one resistor and one diode and one small capacitor.
*$2 apiece a few years back surplus, no idea what they cost new or if even available, but anything similar would work.
EDIT: BTW, My first surplus hit of available today, 18A, 240 Vac, $9.00 though , but 18A would run vac, light, another attachment.
