I have a room with one long side of the room has a pitched ceiling starting at 8 feet, following the roofline to 10 feet, then running flat the rest of the way. My question is how can I run crown along the 8 foot wall, up the pitch to the ten foot end walls. I have no problem except where the 8 foot wall starts up the pitched part. Any ideas?

Doug,
I asked the same question a few months back, as I have a vertical wall, then a sloped ceiling that parallels the roof, then flat. The only difference was that your 8' is my 14', and your 10' is my 18'. The general flavor of the replys is that I shouldn't be putting crown on this type of ceiling. There was one suggestion to box in the junction where the vertical wall meets the sloped portion of the ceiling, and the crown here would touch the bottom of this box, while the crown piece coming down the wall and touching the sloped portion of the ceiling would end at the vertical portion of this box. Yes, there would be a discontinuity in the crown. I haven't done it yet. If I ever do, I'll post a picture.
*Rich,Well, I went ahead and did it anyway, and am generally happy with the results. I ran a skirt board under the crown, which was actually a section of neck baseboard. In the low corner, I ran just enough of a straight section, as if the ceiling was flat at the low point, to be able to both cope the inside corner, and then miter the skirt up towards the higher plane. Then I did the same with the crown. The compromise is that along the 8 foot wall, the distance between the bottom of the crown and the bottom of the skirtboard is greater than along any other section of the room. I am going to run a small bead midway in this area to disguise this fact. I would like to add a diagram, but I am new to this site and haven't figured out how to do that yet. Thanks for your help.Doug Coleman
*Doug, I'd sure like to see a picture or an electronic sketch of this. If you can send a file, my e-mail should be imbedded in this post.
