Stop tile so that the crown bottom just sits on tile (about 1/4") and fill remainder with wood to match thickness of tile. In all cases use a nailgun with 16gauge finish nails.
Yep - thanks, great idea..unfortunately too late!
You could make a triangular piece that fits the back of the crown and then mount that piece to tile or plaster with adhesive. Then just use short nails to nail crown to wood.
How about a 1x board at the top of the wall, like a frieze board, attached with plastic anchors & screws.
Then you put up the crown, and nail it to the board and into the ceiling.
I've also used colonial baseboard upside down, instead of the 1x, for an added little detail.
Or, just rip some 2x for crown backer, again install it with shields & screws, and nail the crown into the backer.
