Hi all
No real question here.
My plumbing friend did a quick repair for me and used a copper piping system I had never seen.
Basically it was standard copper pipe, but the fittings were swaged on (crimped) with a high pressure crimper. The fittings have a gasket in them to seal the pipe.
This is new to me.
Can anyone tell me more about it and has any experience (also longevity)?
This is all curiosity, no special reason.
Jeff

They have been around sevral years now. I've not used them in the field , but did attend a seminar at the supply house a year or so ago. Good product and good idea, but PEX is taking the lead because and cost. The tools alone for the crimp style copper are pretty high and the fittings are off the chart when compared to standard sweat fittings. All that is suppose to be offset by the lower labor cost. Don't know if that really works out though.
They are popular but I've always wondered how long they will last before leaking.
Fittings are very expensive but one of the main advantages is that you can go in and install a fitting on lines that have water in them. This alone could save you a ton of time on a repair.
I'm not so sure I'd use it all the time on new construction, but those who get on board wouldn't do it any other way.
