On the house I bought recently, the joists for the deck are attached direclty to the rim joist of the house. The house is vinly siding. There is no flashing or anything going under the siding and over the rim joist in the deck area. This seems odd. I discovered slight water damage to the rimjoist and the house’s subfloor. I think water is running between the first deck floor board (which is parallel to the house) and the rim joist. I was thinking of removing this board and installing flashing, but since the deck joists attach right to the house’s rim joist I am not sure how to or if I can flash around those.
I would appreciate any advice about techniques or email. (I am a decent funtiture maker, but decks/siding are new to me. Thanks.
