RE: Demolition & Debris Removal Companies
I was wondering if the contractors out there use demolition & debris removal companies instead of dumpsters or truck and trailers. For cleaning up tear offs or interior and exterior demolition. If so could you let me know of your experiences with them. I own Buffalo Watse Services, we services all of WNY and was wondering what was going on in other parts of the country.
Thanks,

Jay,I am in Akron,Ohio and it has been YEARS since I have allowed a dumpster onto one of my jobs.
The majority of my jobs are shingle tear-offs and I use a local hauler to handle that debris clean-up. I generally pay him about $10 per square----although he would be generally satisfied with $8 per square. A small cape cod roof measuring 11 square X 2 layers of shingles will cost $220 for debris removal, a large complicated roof measuring about 45 square x 3 layers of shingles will cost about $1300 in debris removal.
I generally have all debris land on a tarp and this company does a nice clean job, very dependable and very fast.On a lot of my jobs, a dumpster would cost more than this companies complete service PLUS I would have to load the dumpster. The company I use operates a small dumptruck ,well maintained and about 5 years old. Most of my jobs are on kind of tight lots and this service means that I don't tie up the customers driveway with a dumpster or gouge up the lawn and landscaping.I have used the same company exclusively for years and they are more valuable to me than any employee I have ever had( more dependable also)
All debris we generate each day is completely removed from the site each day( usually by lunch)----we don't leave any trash on site overnight at all. In short, the customers love this AND it is actually cheaper than using dumpsters or operating my own dumptruck
unless it's asbestos, or a tree(s), we do it all in-house. I'm talking additions and renovations, not pushing over a couple of ramblers for townhouses.
lot of times the lead guy works along with the labor crew to: save this light fixture, or shut off water, or make safe an electric circuit. The laborers don't hablo, but all you have to do is point and grunt. If the job is large enough, and has the room, it gets a container. The boss used to have a monster dump, but you needed a cdl to drive it, most of the drivers he hired wouldn't get out of the drivers seat and work. They all eventually quit to drive a beer truck or something.
