Together with a colleague, I will be opening up a new architecture/interior design office in March, 2001. We are working on our business plan. In particular, we are figuring out our potential market(s). Two questions:
1. We both have had sucessful relationships with contractors doing design-build jobs. Usually the contractor is the lead, and our contract is with them and not the owner. This has worked well for both commercial and residential. Any suggestions on how we can be attractive to contractors interested this kind of team?
2. The new office will be in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is in the midst of a building boom. This boom is fueled primarily by the tech./dotcom industry. While we might get some jobs riding out good times, I want to plan for the inevitable bust. What are some fields/industries/areas that still need design (or design/build) work during a slowdown?
Thanks.
