I installed two wall sconces on either side of a bathroom vanity.
The two lights are very dim. I checked the voltage, and it is 117 through the switch and into the first light. Coming out of the first light, the voltage drops to 57. It seems to me like there is something wrong with the fixture. I swapped the two light fixtures, and have the same problem with both.
Any thoughts as to what is going on? Did I end up with two defective lights?
Thanks for your help.

i think your wire wrong, your running to your first light then feeding your 2nd thhru that light.i can't remember but i think they call "in series" .my 8th grade shop teacher let me wire 2 lights that way just to teach me what not to do. larry
hand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
turn them on then unscrew the light that is fed from the switch..if the other lamp goes out ..you are in series

What the others said. They were mistakenly wired in series.
Unscrew one bulb. I'll bet the other goes out when you do that. You wired them in series.
Go back to electrician's kindergarten and study up on your basic wiring.
Sounds to me like you have the two lights wired in series instead of parallel. Check that out. It should solve your problem.
You shouldn't be....
aw, forget it.

The light fixture over my porch is wired in series, ON PURPOSE! this has dimmed the lights and now the bulbs last going on 8 years. Could not get a month before as they were over heating.
