Hey there BTer’s
What I have is a garage with a gambrel roof and what I was wandering is if I were to insulate the walls/lower portion of the roof, do I need an arispace even though it is the second floor and there is lots of ventilation. The soffit is solid so there is no air flow from below. As I said its just the loft of the garage and not going to be used for living space
Thanks all

If I understand your question then my answer would be no. Do you have a moisture source in the space below?
Hey there RayI guess I should explain a little better as before I was in a hurry. The garage is constructed of 8" block and the rafters are home made trusses of 2x4's. I have a bunch of r-12 kicking around here and I want to use it up so its not in the way.I was hoping not to need an airspace. The lower section of the gambrel roof is on a 70 degree and the upper is a 20 degree.Just wandering if the life of the shingles will be affected. As for moisture, I just poured an new floor last year and I used 6mil poly under the concrete. The shingles are new as that was my summer project.Like I said ,or asked do you think there should be an airspace or keep the r-12 in likewise as an exterior wall. Also I live here in southern Ontario where the climate changes like the wind Thanks for your advice and any more would be nice;;;;Gee maybe I should have been a poet,,,lol
