In the Breaktime column in September 2009 hardcopy edition of “Fine Homebuilding” there is a discussion about replacement batteries for power tools. One contributor remarked that there are plenty of batteries for sale on eBay for $1.00 each. STAY AWAY FROM THESE BATTERIES. They are cheap Chinese knock-offs made with no quality control. Even if they take a charge, the charge does not last half as long as the manufacturer’s batteries. The real problem is that they will explode in your charger — trust me, they really will.

Welcome to BT, see this is your first post.
The NiCds in HF batt packs are all chinese. Personnaly have had good luck with them, esp at 50 cents per cell when you buy an 18V batt pack for %.99.
Or, are you talking li-ion. Those will explode, have never seen a ni-cd explode (have seen them split the case, but not explode like an overcharging car battery or li-ion spectacular results.
As for the phrase, "trust me, they really will", unless you are talking li-ion vs. ni-cd, very difficult for me to trust you and not consider your comments in the context of a used car salesman.
Am always open to knowledge, can you provide any documentation on ni-cds exploding?????
