We just purchased 3-5 panel, 24″ antique doors. What is the best way to strip 60 year old paint etc., and refinish these doors? I recall seeing on HGTV a while back where they used some kind of paste. Thanks.

Semi-paste stripper, with methylene chloride. And an array of scrapers and dental picks. Also, heavy rubber gloves.
Lead may be encountered, so use a mask.

And steel wool for what the scrapers and picks don't get. Use it gently.

There are re-finishers that have big dipping tanks. For a fee, they'll get most of it off, leaving you with the finer work.
I've had really good results with a heat gun and an puddy knife...You just have to be careful about stoping in one place for too long. It should get you down to the wood in one pass.

That and possible lead ingestion. If its lead paint and it gets too hot. The lead vaporizes and gets breathed right into the blood stream. Its probably the easiest way to get enough lead to actually poison an adult. Had a friend get poisoned and miscarry doing it this way. Decided to have their doors dipped. Now they have two great kids and the doors look good too.

Splat,If I give myself a miscarrage from burning paint off a door, brother I got much bigger problems than a bunch of doors to strip...LOL..You make an excellent point though, I didn't mention the importance of a well ventilated space and respitory protection.
I agree with:
(1) dip em
(2) heat gun
(3) meth clor stripper
Been there a million times it seems, must be the lead talkin.
