Expanding on Chuck’s advice, in the phone book should be a “Call before you dig” 800 number. In some places there is a stiff penalty for not calling. The service is free and they coordinate all the utilities to get them to come to the site and mark all the locations of underground stuff.

black 4" corrogated pipe

"Miss Utility" is what it's called. 1-800-something, call the inspector's office.
I buried a 4" smooth unperforated PVC drain pipe (thinner & cheaper than sched. 40). Easy to snake out with hose, adapts to standard plastic drain fittings. I put catch basins under the downspouts and pour concrete around them to prevent erosion and funnel water into grate. If pipe plugs/overflows, the water will flow downhill on the surface. Dug the trench by hand ... not much depth needed and I wanted to save as much sod as possible (still have this funny stripe across the lawn).
*The above is all good information. In my area the free utility locating service is called "No-Cuts" and can be found in the yellowpages under several different headings like "excavation". I remember when I lived in VA it was called "Miss Utility".

Personally I want to drain the water into a drain field but
I have no idea how long I need to make the drain pipe. Any
Ideas.

I read the article in the last issue of FH, I was wondering what ideas on piping to use to get the water from collecting at the foundation. Flexible, rigid, use gravel, don't use gravel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have lanes that travel down hill on 3 sides of the house. The house and garage are 74 feet long and 32 feet wide. The side I worry about is the one I'm going to have to with most.
Thank You for the suggestions
Greg
*Greg:Go buy a roll or 3 of 4" black corrugated plastic pipe (unperforated). It is fairly inexpensive. Next go rent a ditch witch (trenching machine). Run your drain tails from your downspouts out and exit them to daylight (don't bury the exit end of the pipe). Or, if you want to make a more bullet proof installation (and more expensive), use 4" schedule 40 PVC, which should be seriously considered if there will be any possibility of vehicles driving over the drain lines.
*Just be sure and have your utilities located before you start trenching , Chuck
*And put a screen over the pipe end to keep out critters and debris.
