just got a price to hang, mud, sand drywall in a house I’m remodling. 180 4×12 sheets for $10,000. I figure that equates to $55.00 per sheet.
Job is 9 1/2 foot walls, and ceilings.
He seems like a good guy, but the price sounds steep, compaired to some past post I’ve read. what’s the going rate around here now?
Thanks,

Are they fitting the drywall to existing trim or is the house gutted?
If the house is gutted and ready like a new house would be with out any extra fitting work, its extremly high considering the volume of sheets involved. Is he to furnish the drywall? Im thinking there has to be somthing here not mentioned.
I would do it for 19.20 per sheet here labour only if it were like a new house.
Fitting drywall around trim goes very high as its comps to fitting paneling and then there is the finishing . Protection is a big deal also.
Maybe you didnt include enough imformation.

all material is included at the price.
the house has been gutted.
It's an old house, and there will be a few screwy corners to deal with, such as slighty unlevel floors and ceilings.
I think the price is reasonable, at least in my area. There is likely a fair amount of fitting, shimming, etc. I would definitely pay that much, possibly more, if the drywall guy is really good. Paying more for better subs always pays off for me.

9 1/2 foot walls, there going be alot of waste material.
Order 54" rock for the 18" rips...3 rips/sheet...no waste. use the center rips with no tapered edges in closets, laundry, utility rooms, etc.
Or use base that is more than 6" tall and put 6" strips of ply under it. Makes nailing the base real nice.

or drop 5-1/2" off of 10 footers and stand them...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
I've done that too...8" base in a Victorian with 9-1/2' ceilings. "Fire-taping" that 6" off the floor joint ain't fun though (not that 18" is fun)."belly banding" between the 4' sheets is easy for hanging & taping, but lacks a tapered edge. How good is your taper?
$1.16 psf.
Shoot for $1.05 psf. and see what happens. But, that is gettin' it done cheap in these parts.
TRIGGER
Use a Butt-Taper on the cut edges in the middle backing with 4" wide strips of OSB. Check to make sure the wood won't cause a problem in that location, adjust if it does. The tool is located at Butt-Taper.com. I have no affiliation with the company, just like the tool.
I could get it done for about 7500 here. Depends on how good he is whether its a good price or not. My price would include all materials for hanging and taping for smooth finish. Im in Alabama so prices are still fairly low.
At a $1.15/sq ft, that is a great price here.
Your price sounds comparable to what I just paid on Long Island in NY. Both metropolitan suburbs... Yours is growing and it's hard to find workers... Get another bid or two and see what happens.

I live in Raleigh, and although I don't do remodeling, that price sounds high.
For new construction I pay about $18.50 a board (or less) for hang, finish and sand, I supply the board only. Figure about a 10 - 15% uplift on the board price when you have the sub supply the board.
My drywall contractor charges $1.50 per square foot.
Unlicensed contractor is less.

labor and material?
Completed project. Everything. Either 1/2" or 5/8", same price. A little more if you want him to seal it.
I think he is quite reasonable, does nice neat work, is reliable, and I'll pay him more out of respect for all of the above.

Sounds high... goin' rate in Nashville is pushing $40 a board turnkey.
