A friend had a guy working with him that came from the mobile home industry
he told us that
and this is no bull ( that he told us anyway)
that they mix drywall mud powder with latex primer instead of water, that way it is primered and textured at the same time
bull or not ??????
hey if thats true, what a great step saver

Doesn't make sense. Texture is not a continuous coating, as a primer coat would need to be in order to be effective. Plus, mobile-home texture usually looks like cacca, maybe that's why? Anyway, mobile-homes are built with lots of cheesy short-cuts, I don't think home builders or remodelers want to adopt any of them.
yeah I thought it was garbage too
not bull...
look closely at a modular some time

Drywall is a three-coat process (with sanding between coats) plus texture. When its done right, it looks right. When it hurried up and rolled on with a roller, it looks like it was hurried up and rolled on with a roller. Acceptable for apartment fixes, but definiitely not for fine homes. Just my opinion. Any rockers/tapers out there have a comment?
I will start out by saying that I'm not a pro rocker (and thankful for it).I think the reason that the guys in the other thread are discussing rolling on mud with PVA primer mixed in is to achieve a higher level of finish than most homes have. I can often spot the mud on walls that have been painted with semi gloss and, as far as I know, the only traditional way to remedy this is to skim coat the wall. The roller method is appealing to me because I know I can't skim coat but maybe I could use this homemade Tuff-hide.
