I’m looking at buying an 1800 RPM grinder for use on chisels and such. Will this be sufficient for heavier work? Mower blades, mauls, etc.

It'll be slow, depending partly on what wheel you have. Ideally, you have 2 grinders. Or choose the one that's more important to you.
I couldn't manage without a slow grinder. Heavy steel, I either use an angle grinder or am patient.

Yeah, I've been using an angle grinder, but patience is good, too.

Get a Tormek for your chisels and a regular old bench grinder for utility sharpening. The two tasks don't really mix.
Yep, Buddha. That's pretty much my conclusion. I'll have to get a second mortgage for the Tormek, but it looks great! : )
