This is probably a really dumb question, but I have to ask. And since I have to ask, I figured this is the place to do it.
We have a beautiful brick wall in our basement that I’d like to keep exposed as I finish the basement off. The problem is that one side of the brick wall is coated with plaster. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was flat plaster, but it appears to be a ‘faux’ finish meant to simulate a cement block wall. It’s ugly.
So my options are to either frame it out and sheetrock it (my original plan) or figure out some way to remove the plaster without damaging the brick. I’ve tried chiseling some of the plaster off and my insticts say that there is no practical way to remove it without some damage to the brick. However, maybe there’s some great hidden trick and.or tool out there that someone knows about…?
