I have stripped and applied Tung Oil to an old tonge and groove heart pine floor. After two years of waxing, I had stripped the floor and applied polyurethane. My border collie has “etched” his path through the room in the polyurethane. I have heard that a spar varnish or “gym” floor coating will hold up to dog toe nails. What do you Pros think?

Richard,
Spar varnish is kind of pinkish in nature, but it might really bring out the red in the old heart pine and isn't gym coating really shiny? My dog has scratched up every floor we've inhabited, at this point I just think of it as him "authenticating" the place.
*My experiance with spar varnish hasn't been very good. I've owned wood boats that I used it on and they didn't hold up very well at all! I have read that the toughest flooring treatment is Swedish finish. At least that's what Don bollinger says in his book, Hardwood floors.
*Concrete.
