Having a DWV discussion on the merits of solid vs. cellular pvc. New pluming is being installed before the basement floors are replaced and H.O. would like to know the potential longevity of the cellular vs. solid 4″ pipe. House has been in family since the 1850’s so they do consider purchases with a longer term outlook than most. Thanks.

Cellular is supposed to make the pipe quieter. Under a poored floor I think I would want the solid PVC.
I concur with McPlumb.
Cellular core has less sound transference, but barely noticeable to the untrained ear.
Cellular core is basically foam pipe that is extruded through a hot disc & bullet to smooth ( melt ) the outer & inner skin to form a water tight seal.
Cellular core will hold up for a long time with most DWV systems. Where they tend to wear out is on pressure drainage systems ( ejector pump).
If it were my house I would opt for the solid pipe in the below ground system.
