In considering Insulated Foam Form construction for the above grade portion of the addition I’m planing, one of the advantages that they pitch is applying the EIFS directly over the foam. Is this really a good method. I’m concerned about the wall being susceptible to dent/crack failure because of the soft foam underlay. What about moisture retention in EIFS systems? The original house is frame construction and stucco will be applied to this as well to blend it all together. Any thoughts?

The standard base for EIFS is foam.Whether or not the system you are being sold is the correct application for EIFS, I couldn't say. The best thing to do is to get a "second opinion"from the Rep for the product you are dealing with. The company that manufactures the product will give you the straight scoop,the want their product to perform. You can probably get tech sheets off the net.
