DanT | Posted in Business on December 23, 2008 05:32am

Who would have guessed with all the economic stuff happening?  A week or so after I decided to close my business I had called and had the Sunday paper cancelled.  They didn’t listen, I got one anyway.

So I check the want ads for jobs.  Not many to say the least.  But one was the same position I held before as a hotel maintenance super with the company I used to work for.

Long story short did the final interview today and was hired.  Good salary, decent bennies.  I am feeling fortunate and blessed considering what is available, or not available as the case may be.  Good day to say the least.  DanT

the best I could do was to get 3 personal days, used seperately over the next year. I get 4.5 weeks every year. I have use three day so far this year because there is so much work, I will lose four week vacation next week, but that ok. Jan 1 I get 4.5 more weeks. It doesn't carry over.I have work 1200 overtime hours this year so far.

Just like my Dad always told me ...

simply be the best at what you do, simply be better than everyone else that's gonna interview for that same position. No matter what the economy ... there will always be at the very least, one decent job available. You just have to simply be the very best candidate available and make sure they know that.

I knew you'd get the gig, the big question is ....

How do I work this to free stays at a national hotel chain?

Santa and i discussed positions, but not prepositions. Then he stepped out of the sleigh into a 17' deep drift and the short, fat guy just disappeared. I put the sleigh on Craig's list, but i'm keeping the reindeer for spring plowing here at Miller's Wise Acres.

Thanks so much all for the support.  We still are closing the business of course (takes a lot longer to tear it apart than to put it together it seems) but nice to have an income again.  The waining days with the business were pretty dry as far as personal money was concerned.  DanT

Worked out great. I was gonna fire you off an e-mail this evening to ask how it was going with the hotel job.

How much travel are you going to have to do?

No travel.  I am just the maintenance super or maintenance engineer (some call it that) for one hotel.  When I was with them before I traveled some to other hotels to train others or troubleshoot problems.  But this deal is just for this box.  Marriot Columbus Airport is the hotel.  Just renovated in 04 so it is pretty nice but has some issues as the guy before me wasn't real strong.  DanT

No, we just got finished with the work we had booked and got the emptied out.  We will remove the lettering and get photos of them in the papers along with the other gear.

We do have one sold and I gave my brother and son the two older units so they have something to drive.  The newer stuff we still have to sell.  DanT
