enlarging basement windows…concerns?
howdy,
yet another home project.
i want to replace my 32″x18″ basement, casement windows with 36″x 24″ “sliding” windows (not for egress). i have talked to the town and will need a permit, but i want to do my research now. i’ve done quite a bit, but would welcome any help…..sort of trust this forum more than books.
it is a cinder 8″ thick block foundation with a 2×8 rim joist. will i have a problem widening by 4″ (less support under joist)? do i need to put a drain in the window well? (i have a drainage line from downspouts that i can hook into)?
any other concerns i should know about, the masons i’ve talked to don’t seem to think it will be a problem, but inspectors around here are tough!
thanks for the help!

Without seeing it in person, sounds like it should be fine. Be sure that the rim joist doesn't have a seam in the enlarged part of the new RO.
I would dig a hole and fill it with pea stone for the window well. Probably 18" below the sill then fill with the stone.
What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
thanks
