I’m running myself ragged trying to find a source for exterior cedar posts and brackets (actually the posts aren’t the problem — it’s the brackets). I’m looking for the rustic style of brackets you find with Tudor Revival or French Country houses built in the 20s and 30s. The posts are rectangular, occasionally chamfered and patterned with “adze” marks; the brackets between them form simple and slightly pointed arches; in some cases the brackets are mortise and tenon joined to the posts with wooden pegs; sometimes the pegs are decorative only and I assume the brackets are nailed/screwed to the posts below surface. Installation would be on an existing house. I’m almost ready to try to make the dang brackets myself from scratch, but I don’t have access to a bandsaw — and I keep seeing these things installed on some of the pricey new houses being built in my area (Dallas, Texas), and know they have to come from somewhere and not be always built on site. Anyone know where I can find these things? Much obliged!

Keeping HVAC systems within the conditioned enclosure can be tough without a basement; one option is to use plenum trusses for the roof, which offer a space for equipment and ductwork.
