What do you replace those old thick exterior sills 2- 2 1/2 thick slanting down with? I got a window sill that is rotted and looks like it will come right out old old house, but waht lumber do i use to get the same thickness and angle to match any suggestions

Use whatever you have, 1 1/2, or better, you can angle the back of the 2 X instead of cutting a 15º slope on the face, if it's a newer unit the outer sill may be t&g into the frame, find the seam pry it off and replace with new ..

Here in NW Oh, often had white oak sills. To replace I have used white oak, but have a good supplier of cypress, an easy to mill and good wood I feel for replacement.
Sometimes will bevel cut the top to give it the 10 or so degree tip necessary to drain water. Othertimes, will tip the whole sill as originally installed. Both cases, I cut a drip lip on the bottom outside edge to keep water from rolling back up the sill.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

I go to the mill and get a thickenough cedar slab and mill it to same dimensions
