Fall Protection Recomendations?
Hey Guys,
Need to invest in a good fall protection kit. I’m a GC, remodeler and I need it for working on roofs, scaffoldings, etc. Suggestions? Recomendations?
Thanks!

Listeners write in about haunted pipes and building-science tomes, and they ask questions about roof venting and roof leaks.

Kid,
It's all about the fit. We have tried many diferent types, dif. guys like dif. ones.
If you have a good relationship w/ your tool guy see if he will let you try them on. Bottom line if it fits well it will stay on more!
Good Luck Steve.
NAIL IT !!!
I would recommend going to a good safety supply store. I usually deal
with Sanderson Safety in Portland, OR, and I find that their prices
are lower than most tool/welding stores that I buy from. They also have a much larger selection than other types of stores .
Sanderson has a branch on Central Ave (El Cerrito/Richmond) near
Costco, but the store does not carry nearly as much as their Portland
store. I used to deal with a safety place in Emeryville near where
Trader Joes is located. Don't recall the name but you could search on
"safety" on Google businesses or Yahoo and find it.
OHSA has a site on fall safety, but it doesn't suggest brand names.
It is at:
http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/fallprotection/recognition.html
All approved fall protection harnesses and lanyards meet the same
safety standards. The big difference is the level of comfort when you
are wearing them and, I assume, how your various body parts will feel
after you been been arrested after a fall. At least some cheap ones
can be uncomfortable for wearing over periods of time and can be
cumbersome to put on. I went for a mid level harness, but then I
don't wear it very often or for very long.
Northern Safety website can give you some ideas. There are, of
course, a multitude of other safety websites on the Internet. The
Northern SAfety one is:

Thanks, much appreciated!!
I will second Casey's recommendation. Good people and a good company to deal with.
I usually give a call to my insurance agent, his parent company has an individual who is a safety specialist. That individual will visit with you and show you the ropes (literally) about the fall protection."Poor is not the person who has too little, but the person who craves more."...Seneca
