Regarding the replacement of fanbelts on a piece of machinery,
I wonder if a belt can be heated slightly to any degree that might give it a more stretchable elasticity during the placement procedure and then have it retract to it’s original shape after cooling?

Some non V belts, you betcha. Vee belts can lose tractio via cross sectional variances and no longer play nice. Fibered Vee belts are notorious for grabbing on the wide part and not the deep part and old age made for shrinkage and cracking..
Belt dressing swelled the old rubber like stuff and shut up the harmonic singing.
Hey, google up a Hurdy Gurdy, same principal.

I was just trying to garner some ideas for Jake in 114953.1 who seems to by having a rough go of it.
Seems the narrowness he needs would be beyond what one might be able to stretch the belt into.
However, A rounded punch and a wamed moldable belt might be a possibility.

Belts are specifically designed to resist stretch.
what would you try if in Jake's situation?
Both cogged belts and neoprene type bandsaw tires can be soaked in warm water or stretched w a clamp in reverse..elsewise, one has to "roll" it on over the pulley/sheave with grunt and cuss.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Just about any belt can be stretched enough to work it over a standard pulley, if you can arrange to slowly turn the pulley and "walk" the belt into place. Some folks wince and say you're stretching the belt out, but in some cases it's the only practical way to get the belt on.

Sound's as if Jake's situation involves the addition of a tight fitting pinched area along with the stretch.
Yeah, and I've encountered that too. If the gap is about 80% of the thickness of the belt you can usually work the belt through the gap, with an appropirate application of the French language.
