A HO asked me to patch in 16′ of fence after a very large dead tree was removed (4′ in Diameter) The tree removal guys ground down the stump 12″ below grade. The 6×6 will sit directly on top of the existing stump,(Due to the nature of the fence I can’t move that post to beside the stump) Any ideas how to mount this post aside from mortising it with a chain saw?

Simpson post base and a couple of long lag bolts? Should last a couple of years anyway.
i hit the gas line just below the surface(unmarked by the utility) when i was building a fence this spring. I bought stringers long enough to span three posts, and mortised the center post to slip over the stringers. it provides no support, but it looks right.
