I am going to be building a home in a rural area where fiber optic internet is not currently available. The nearest drop for the existing cable internet/TV system is about 500ft away. If I were to place a fiber optic cable,in conduit, in a currently open trench would the cable company be able to connect to it at the utility pole? Would a power source be necessary at the pole? I’ve made several calls to the local provider. They are slow to respond and even slower to arrive at the site. I would like to close the trench so I figured I should have my guys install it.

You might be better off with empty conduit in the trench, with a pull cable. that way they can use a cable they are happy with.
of course they might decide to run the cable themselves and leave it an inch below your grass, or hung in the air.
