I have formed the walkway for my pour and have leveled up the dirt and compacted it pretty well. I did it in lifts and used the end of a 2×4 to tamp it where I thought it needed it.
Overal it is fine, but there are areas that are still low (2″ in some places) and the dirt has dried out and is moving around.
I like to finish up with something that will compact well and stay put as a final base.
What material should I use for this final lift? Should I use plastic on top of everything?

You're arms must be killing you after all that tamping. Either that or you've got Popeye arms! <g>
I would think some limestone screenings (crushed limestone dust) would fit the bill.

Thanks!
Don't thank me just yet. In retrospect, I have to agree with BossHog - if you gotta fill it with something, fill it with concrete. No further tamping required. <g>--------------------------------------------------------

If it's not a big area that's low, how about just making the concrete thicker?
I agree. I am going thicker at the edge and in the middle. I just want to go over it one more time and get it just so. I have the time.
I think I have someone to help me finish it. But all the other free help I have to schedule out about a week. I talk to two different finish guys today. So I have time.
