What are some options available for exterior outlets you know about?
This would be on Hardi siding.
It can be “fancy” or simple. IE enclosed perhaps within a cedar box, or just mounted on a wedge, or other.
I’m just not too keen on just having an outlet box screwed to the side of the wall.
I have an idea or two in my head, but would like to hear some others to perhaps give me a front runner.
Pictures are always a plus too 😉
Thanks

I thought of that, but I was concerned that they would not hold paint well enough.
I figured after one summer in our rain and heat that the paint would crack and they would become terribly unsightly.

LOL.
I just used recessed boxes and still haven't got the covers on yet..Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Don't know what is required where you are, but here, even though exterior receptacle boxes are recessed, "in-use" covers are required that allow something to be plugged in and the connection still be weatherproof are required. Personally I don't care for the plastic ones and this .pdf document shows some metal ones if you scroll down some. Even those aren't very attractive, but at least there are a little more heavy duty.
These things are no longer acceptable.
As far as how the box is mounted on (in) the siding, here, in new construction it works like this: 1) Electrician hangs wire out the side the house during his rough-in. 2) (Hardie) siding guys come and either just bore a hole through the siding and pull the wire through, or take a ~4"x6" block of say, 5/4 miratec, Azek or whatever, bore a hole through the block, pull the wire through mount the block the the wall and then side around it. 3) Electricians come back during trim-out and cut out around the wire and install a pop in box, receptacle, and one of the afore mentioned outlet covers. These exterior outlets are chained off a GFCI receptacle.
Yeah, that is pretty much the way we are. I have one box however that has to be off the siding, not recessed. Essentially surface mounted. but with the lap of the siding I didn't want the box angled. So I was thinking some sort of decorative option.
The others can be finished the way you stated.
Thanks for the input!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modify a downwards pointing color matching dryer vent as a box. Cut a piece of PT to fit inside. Cut a hole out in the PT to fit a old work box.
You might check Arlington Industries' "In-Box" for an alternative to the usual methods. http://www.aifittings.com
More important than the 'how" is the 'where' and 'what for.' IMO, at least. Locations to consider include:
-Under the eaves, for rooftop de-icing;
-Under the eaves, and switch controlled, for Christmas lights;
-Near wherever the car is parked;
-At the ends of rows of shrubbery;
-Near (not directly next to) any walkway or path;
-Adjacent to any equipment that might need to be serviced; and,
-Near to any place where you might set a chair, BBQ, etc.
