We live in the Northwest…read that to mean alot of cool, wet weather. In building a new home we are considering an indoor/outdoor fireplace located at a wall between an indoor family room and an outside covered deck/porch. Like the idea of enjoying the warmth of a fireplace while sitting outside on the covered porch watching the rain. Any ideas on the pros and cons of such a fireplace, suppliers, designs, etc, etc???

I've never seen such a thing but I can picture it working if you have a steel firebox with a door that can be closed tightly on the outside most of the time. It would probably be a place where you would loose alot of heat but interior doors would help that too.
It would probably be a custom fabricated item. If you can't find a fabricator in your area, e-mail me. I might know someone who could do this. Shipping charges from NJ might kill you though.
