Can you please provide some more info, a picture would do better.
I dont know if I get what your saying, is this fireplace brick? Or is the mantle leaning away? How old a house/fireplace?
Any info that might help visualize the problem.

I guess I should have said the chimney is pulling away from the house. Leaning away, needs jacked up to level.
