Never have seen PE pipe crack before.
OK, was old stuff I used, but put in a PE 3/4″ line to DWs balckberry patch 4 months ago. Pressure only 45 psi max.
Got home from a trip, she tells me there must be a leak, there is a pond in the back.
OK, dug it up, found split in PE just upstream of SS clamp, 3/4″ long. Meter in pumphouse says it pumped about 15,000 gal into the ground while I was gone.
At least we know the well will pump continuously <G>
Anyone else ever seen PE ‘crack’? How about PEX??
BTW, compacted the fill (24″ deep) with the back tire of the Ford 4500 hoe ; may have contributed to stress, but took 4 months to open??.

Yes & yes.
Have seen several PE lines crack that were on irrigation systems---- very low pressure, but burried shallow & froze.
Saw pex crack where it was kinked & not properly straightend.
Did see 1" pex blow apart, but that was due to too much pyrotechnic rammed on top of 1 tablespoon of lift powder (black powder) & let me tell ya how loud that was.
